Abstract
CASHMERE-int is aimed at an active
participation in standards development in the context of the Semantic Web and their
transmission into the academic field. The goals of the transmission are the
promotion of standards and their implementation in new services as well as the
motivation of other scientists to actively participate in the international
standardization in the field of web technologies.
The promotion of standards is
realised by means of newsletter publishing, the creation of tutorials and a
competence centre (technically implemented as wiki). A participation in the
question and answer service AskDCMI is planned. The infrastructure of
CASHMERE-int includes web server and the Wiki collaboration platform, which allow
the development of an extendable knowledge base in the area of
standardization.
Another effort to promote acceptance of metadata
standards is the encoding of Dublin-Core metadata in example applications like the
homepage generator MMM.Persons, Thesis
Online Broker TheO and Mathematics Metadata Markup
MMM. MMM and MMM.Persons tools were extended to allow RDF
encoding of Dublin-Core metadata.
CASHMERE-int is also trying to
transmit requirements of the users for standards and implementation to the
international standardization level. This includes our efforts to reactivate the
DC-Tools working group in DCMI.
