Abstract
The project "Cashmere-int" is the subproject "Semantic Web:
Development and Transmission" in the network of expertise
"New Services, Standardisation, MetaData".
It is funded by the BMBF (German Federal Ministry for Education and Research)
for the period from 01.10.2003 to 30.09.2005 and is conducted by the University of Osnabrück,
the Staats-und Universitätsbibliothek Göttingen (SUB Göttingen) and by IWI e. V.
(Institute for scientific information).
"The goal of the project is an active participation in the development of selective standards
in the context of the Semantic Web and a proficient transmission into the academic field in the
Federal Republic of Germany. With this a faster and deepened implementation of standards in
New Services will be encouraged. The goal of the activities in the area of transmission is also
the motivation of further scientists... to actively
take part in international standardisation... of advanced web technologies."
Cashmere-int exemplarily focuses on the Semantic Web and here especially as a an exemplified
vertical implementation of the intended integration on "Preservation Metadata",
that is to say on the development, standardisation and transmission of the necessary meta data
to render preservation in the digital world possible.
The approach within the network of expertise is to be self-energizing:
The standardisation in the international context in the area of the Semantic Web
is to be accelerated with the development and research of new services and practices.
The transmission is supposed to quicken the devlopment and research along the standards
and with this to evolve a rich and sustainable product development in the long term.
