Abstract
In order to share authoritative knowledge about a given resource,
based solely on the URI denoting it, there is a need for standardized methods to offer
an access to its description. NOKIA proposed to extend existing HTTP standards with
new methods in order to indicate to a web server that it should resolve the specified
URI in terms of knowledge about the resource denoted by that URI rather than in terms
of a representation of the resource.
URIQA (URI Query Agent), developed by NOKIA, is implemented as an RDF Gateway,
which is used to add, extract and delete descriptions of resources.
URIQA is a commercial software, only available for Windows users.
The importance of this development was recognised by the Cashmere-int team.
The RDS - Resource Description Server is a parallel development of the Cashmere-int project.
It is an open source version of URIQA, which is thought to be platform independent.
Standardization of the respective additions in http protocol will be initiated.
