Personal homepages in the internet contain important infromation, not just for home usage but also for the research area. To make a qualified search for information about people possible (and more successful), a tool was developed by Math-Net. Metadata is stored for personal information using internation standards such as Dublin Core, vCard, RDF and XML.

My Meta Maker (MMM) Persons aims to help in the creation of a homepage using these technologies

The homepage is created with help from a web form (default values are for the teaching staff of the Mathematics/Computer Science Deptartment at the University of Osnabrück) - using this form a correct and valid XHTML/RDF page will be created.

Your first step in the creation of a webpage is choose to either edit an existing webpage or creating a new one. If you have an old webpage choose edit. Then either provide the link where your webpage resides or upload your webpage (if it isn't online). If your webpage was created with Version 2.2. of MMMPers - then you should upload the .rdf file (where Version 2.2. created 2 files. firstnamelastname.html and firstnamelastname.rdf). The program will then fill the values of the fields from your RDF data.

Now you are presented with the main form where you input your data. More infromation on the fields is available below. At the end of this form is a series of radio boxes - here you can choose how this metadata will be encoded into the XHTML website. The current preferred approach is not to encode the data directly into the website but to link too an external document (as in version 2.2), but other methods are available. Why not try some out - then test them using w3c's validator w3c validator

When all of the fields are filled out, click on the button "create" - and a new homepage will be created. Now you can view the webpage. Are you unhappy? or did you forgot something? click on the button "edit" otherwise choose "Prepare for download". Now your browser will open a save dialog box. The file must be named with the .html extension. This is for Internet Explorer compatibility the MIME type must remain html/text - not xhtml/text (Internet Explorer doesn't support XHTML yet). Please save this to your computer and upload to your website or email to your webadministrator.

Now save the associated RDF page (if embedding externally to the html page). With this method it is vital to save the RDF file with the the format Firstnamelastname.rdf - or the link in the XHTML file will need to be edited. The correct name should be automatically generated

At Osnabrück University we recommend you save the file in the following location /home/http/data/staff/phpages/Firstnamelastname.html

By uploading your homepage to the above named directory, you acknowledge that with making this webpage public on the www-server. You are personly responsible for the contents of this webpage. So that no one can change the contents of the homepage, you should be the only one with write access. You can achieve this by running the command chmod 644: Example: chmod 644 /home/http/data/staff/phpages/Firstnamelastname.html

Finally send an email to the web administrator, so that your homepage will be linked from other sites of the www servers.
